El Morell has always been an ideal place for peach cultivation thanks to its microclimate of mild winters and hot summers.
Mild winters
No severe frosts, but enough cold for the trees to accumulate the necessary “chill hours” for uniform flowering.
Hot summers
They promote proper ripening and higher sugar concentration in the fruit due to the high temperatures.

A bit of history
During the mid-20th century, El Morell was recognized as a reference peach-producing area, with highly valued varieties such as Canongí, Peret, and Auverge.
However, in the 1970s many farmers abandoned peach cultivation in favor of less demanding crops, such as hazelnuts or olive trees, allowing them to combine farming with other professions. Falling prices and the rise of industry in the area were the main causes.
Quality benchmark
Today, peach producers in El Morell can be counted on one hand. However, innovation with new, more resistant and sweeter varieties, along with the fact that the region is exceptionally suitable for peach growing, has made Mas Montseny peaches a benchmark of quality and size both in Catalonia and southern France.
When can you taste them?
At Mas Montseny we work with 18 peach varieties available from May until the end of July.
- Red-skinned peaches: the earliest varieties, very refreshing.
- Yellow-skinned peaches: from Saint John’s Day onwards, sweeter yellow varieties appear.
